Our full service City client is regarded highly for their contentious offering, and as such, have benefitted from the counter cyclical conditions prevalent in the current market. Their current tax practice supports all other areas of the business and is very much a “support group” as it stands. Primarily they advise on non-contentious matters but have identified the need to secure a significant lateral hire within the tax litigation field to realise the potential the firm firmly believes it has in this area. The untapped client base is significant and provides the successful applicant with the realistic opportunity to build a genuine market leading practice. Ideally, applicants will have conducted litigation in the tax tribunals, the UK Higher Courts and the European Court of Justice and be recognised as a leader in their field. Obviously, the ability to show client portability would be of particular interest but is not a necessity and will be evaluated based of the firm you are currently with and the genuine likelihood of clients leaving your present firm. Of more importance is the ability to illustrate how you have succeeded in the development of your practice at your current firm and leveraged off the institutional relationships.
